WEB EXCLUSIVE One of the greatest times of the year in Raleigh is when the N.C. State Fair comes to town. For two weeks in October, the state fairgrounds are filled with the bright lights of ferris wheels and other fun rides, the sounds of laughter and excitement and the smells of fried food wafting through the air.

There are some things we Raleighites look forward to every year: a ride on the State Fair Flyer and several attempts to win a prize at the midway games, followed by a trek around the fairgrounds for the wackiest fried food we can imagine (and maybe a fried Oreo or two, just because).

Lucky for us, this year we don’t have to wait until October to get our fair food fix! This weekend the N.C. State Fair is hosting a fair food-themed drive-thru to kick off the summer. All of your traditional favorites are on the menu, including funnel cakes, deep fried Oreos, deep fried snickers, candy apples, cotton candy, pineapple dole whip and freshly squeezed lemonade. All menu items are cash only.

The State Fair drive-thru will take place in the fairgrounds parking area off Trinity Road from 12 to 8 p.m., May 29 through 31. Safe social distancing measures will be enforced and customers are required to remain in their vehicles.

Here’s hoping that a little fried goodness can hold you over until the N.C. State Fair kicks off on October 15!
