SUMMARY:Venice: New Paintings by Bert Sult
DESCRIPTION:Bert Sult is a North Carolina-based architect and watercolor artist who has established himself in both fields with remarkable versatility. As an architect\, he designed many notable buildings in the Raleigh area\, including Jones Chapel at Meredith College\, the Raleigh Municipal Building and Complex\, Cary Medical Center\, and the Whitaker Center. \nAs a watercolorist\, Bert Sult focuses on impressionistic watercolor street scenes from interesting locales\, with particular emphasis on European subjects. Sult’s romantic portrayals of historic street scenes and buildings from Europe are executed in transparent\, flowing watercolors\, showcasing his mastery of this difficult and unpredictable medium. Like a modern-day Georgia O’Keeffe\, Bert Sult loves to play with the fluidity of the medium.

SUMMARY:The Americans: Silver Gelatin Photographs by Marsha Burns
DESCRIPTION:Marsha Burns transitioned from painting to photography in 1972\, eventually developing intimate figure studies in her Seattle studio that treated subjects as formal elements alongside light and reflective surfaces. A pivotal 1984 trip to Berlin redirected her work toward exploring personal identity through appearance\, a theme she carried through New York\, Rome\, Frankfurt\, and rural Washington State. Her authentic\, unstaged silver gelatin prints are now part of major museum collections worldwide\, including MoMA\, the Met\, and the Smithsonian.

SUMMARY:800 – Art Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:There are approximately 800 million people living in extreme poverty today. As a percent of the global population that’s roughly 10%. That percentage 100 years ago was closer to 60%. We should work toward ending extreme global poverty to increase people’s opportunity to realize their innate human potential. This would increase global stability\, commerce\, and innovation\, while reducing human suffering. \nTo gain a sense of the scale of the 800 million people currently living in extreme poverty today\, artwork in this exhibit uses installations in sculpture\, video\, augmented reality\, and print\, to show pieces exploring sensations of space and form through agglomerations of 800. \nThis exhibit is a fundraiser for the Borgen Project. The Borgen Project is an advocacy organization for the global poor. They organize support and lobby governments worldwide for various bills to end extreme poverty.
