SUMMARY:Venice: New Paintings by Bert Sult
DESCRIPTION:Bert Sult is a North Carolina-based architect and watercolor artist who has established himself in both fields with remarkable versatility. As an architect\, he designed many notable buildings in the Raleigh area\, including Jones Chapel at Meredith College\, the Raleigh Municipal Building and Complex\, Cary Medical Center\, and the Whitaker Center. \nAs a watercolorist\, Bert Sult focuses on impressionistic watercolor street scenes from interesting locales\, with particular emphasis on European subjects. Sult’s romantic portrayals of historic street scenes and buildings from Europe are executed in transparent\, flowing watercolors\, showcasing his mastery of this difficult and unpredictable medium. Like a modern-day Georgia O’Keeffe\, Bert Sult loves to play with the fluidity of the medium.

Just like every little girl\, she loved to play with her mother’s jewelry. She was drawn to the fun geometric shapes and the bold colors\, especially the 80s clip resin earrings. Years later\, she began to collect her own jewelry when she was in college. As a maker\, she was fascinated with the idea of making her own jewelry and in 2006 she was introduced to “Beginning Metals and Jewelry” class in her junior year. As soon as she held that jeweler’s saw in her hand\, she knew she had found her calling. \nIn 2012 she received her MA and MFA degrees in Metals and Jewelry from Savannah College of Art and Design. During the three and half year of her graduate school training she created one-of-kind jewelry not only for her loved ones but also for clients that she met at the Philadelphia Museum of Art craft shows. She enjoys the sense of achievement that comes from knowing how much joy her jewelry brings to her clients. She became absorbed with the challenge of problem-solving and brainstorming designs and making the jewelry. She didn’t want to stop\, so in order to continuously share her passion with the world\, she founded Raleigh-based HTY Jewelry in 2013. \nAbout Artspace // \nArtspace is a non-profit visual arts center located in Downtown Raleigh.
