DESCRIPTION:The fourth annual Gettin’ Piggy With It returns to downtown Raleigh on May 17\, bringing award-winning chefs and pitmasters from across the country together for a day of barbecue\, community and philanthropy benefiting the Frankie Lemmon School. \nTickets go on sale at noon Friday\, March 20\, at frankielemmonfoundation.org/gettinpiggywithit/. \nThe family-friendly event will take place from noon to 5 p.m. at Maywood Hall and Gardens (622 Maywood Ave.\, Raleigh) and will feature barbecue and other chef-driven bites\, along with local beer and spirits\, live music\, games and more. The event is hosted by the Frankie Lemmon Foundation in partnership with Jake Wood of Lawrence Barbecue and Chris Powers of Trophy Brewing Co. \nVIP tickets are $200 per adult and includes early entry at noon. This “mixed bouquet” of music will feature Kaye Saunders\, David Arcus\, and other St. Luke’s musicians\, offering a variety of music old and new. Highlights include Bach’s Trio Musical Offering featuring Ehsan Samei\, Cathy Rimer-Surles\, and Rachel Evans; and David Arcus’s award-winning Song of Ruth and Naomi for soprano and organ. You will hear beloved selections such as “The Swan” from Carnival of the Animals\, Schubert’s Ave Maria\, familiar hymn arrangements\, and portions of Vivaldi’s Gloria. This is a free event\, but donations are welcome. All are invited to a reception after the performance.

DESCRIPTION:This program honors Evelyn Pope by reading books. \nEvelyn\, a college librarian born in 1908 and died in 1995\, loved a variety of books from The Adventures of Tom Sawyer to Shakespeare and James Baldwin. The program brings community members together monthly at the museum to discuss books\, focusing on works by Black writers or featuring Black subjects\, including fiction and non-fiction.
