Just like every little girl\, she loved to play with her mother’s jewelry. She was drawn to the fun geometric shapes and the bold colors\, especially the 80s clip resin earrings. Years later\, she began to collect her own jewelry when she was in college. As a maker\, she was fascinated with the idea of making her own jewelry and in 2006 she was introduced to “Beginning Metals and Jewelry” class in her junior year. As soon as she held that jeweler’s saw in her hand\, she knew she had found her calling. \nIn 2012 she received her MA and MFA degrees in Metals and Jewelry from Savannah College of Art and Design. During the three and half year of her graduate school training she created one-of-kind jewelry not only for her loved ones but also for clients that she met at the Philadelphia Museum of Art craft shows. She enjoys the sense of achievement that comes from knowing how much joy her jewelry brings to her clients. She became absorbed with the challenge of problem-solving and brainstorming designs and making the jewelry. She didn’t want to stop\, so in order to continuously share her passion with the world\, she founded Raleigh-based HTY Jewelry in 2013. \nAbout Artspace // \nArtspace is a non-profit visual arts center located in Downtown Raleigh. SUMMARY:Black Joy in the Springtime
DESCRIPTION:Music played a central role in American family life during the 19th and early 20th centuries\, long before the advent of television and cellphones.\nAfrican American households embraced music as a powerful means of self-expression. Through gospel\, jazz\, blues\, and classical music\, African Americans found a way to share their stories\, joys\, and sorrows. ‘Black Joy in the Springtime’ beautifully highlights this rich musical heritage at one of Raleigh’s historic African American homes. Enjoy a delightful musical performance by Shenette Swann.

SUMMARY:Building a Garden that Benefits Wildlife
DESCRIPTION:Many wildlife gardening classes make it sound as though all you need to do is plant a few flowers and wait for nature to arrive. In reality\, creating a garden that truly supports birds\, pollinators\, beneficial insects\, reptiles\, amphibians\, and other wildlife takes thoughtful planning. What do animals need to survive? Which plants help most? How do we create habitat in ways that are both beautiful and manageable? \nIn this 4-week course\, you’ll learn practical strategies for building a garden that attracts and sustains wildlife while fitting your space\, goals\, and gardening style. We’ll explore how healthy gardens function as ecosystems\, and how even small home landscapes can provide food\, shelter\, water\, and breeding habitat for a wide range of beneficial creatures. \nYou’ll also learn how to put those ideas into practice through smart plant selection\, layered garden design\, and seasonal maintenance strategies that support wildlife year-round. Along the way\, we’ll discuss pollinator gardening\, helpful garden features\, and how to work with natural systems rather than against them.
