SUMMARY:Photography Walk
DESCRIPTION:In the annual event “Moonlight in the Garden\,” the JCRA is decorated with an elaborate design of garden lighting that beautifully highlights the garden’s key botanical features. It is a magical time to visit the gardens\, but it can be challenging to capture in a photograph if you are not used to nighttime photography. \nIn this special session\, Mary Louise will start in the classroom\, explaining the key equipment and techniques she uses to successfully capture the illuminated garden. Then the class will transition to the gardens to practice these techniques with Mary Louise’s guidance. Participants are welcome to continue to photograph and enjoy the gardens after the session\, until 8 pm. \nPhotography Walk fees include entrance fee to Moonlight in the Gardens event for the night of the class. The Photography Walk is a special preview event and takes place on an evening when the event is not open to the general public. This is an exclusive opportunity to be able to photograph the nighttime event using a tripod\, an essential tool for sharp night images.

SUMMARY:The Midweek Program
DESCRIPTION:Mother Nature hates bare soil\, and let’s be honest\, so do us gardeners when it’s obvious you could squeeze a few more plants into that bed\, easily. But what do you do when it’s not that easy? What if you’re dealing with a steep slope\, or massive tree roots\, or hard compact soil you have to fight to dig up? \nJoin our Research Technician Evan as he takes us to some tricky spots in the garden and shows us how to get plants in the ground when the ground is being anything but cooperative. Evan will demonstrate proper planting techniques while also sharing a few tips and tricks for making sure your plants can get established and survive\, wherever you’re putting them. Whether you need to stop your soil from eroding down the hill\, or you just want more color and life in every nook and cranny you can manage\, you’re not going to want to miss this one!
