WEB EXCLUSIVE The group behind Black August in the Park, an annual Durham-based event to creatively inspire people of African descent and connect local and regional justice movements, brings The Black Farmers Market NC to Raleigh this Sunday. The market’s mission, according to Black August in the Park’s website, is to “create change and develop a culture of Black sustainability that is inclusive of all walks of life within the African diaspora.”

At the market you’ll find fresh, organic produce from Black farmers, a variety of goods and services from Black-owned businesses and a delicious array of food vendors for when hunger strikes during your shopping spree.

Additionally, The Black Farmers Market NC teamed up with the Durham Bulls to raise $8,000 in eight weeks in an effort to expand its impact and frequency by creating a “sustainaBULL” eco-network of Black farmers and entrepreneurs across the state. The group asks that individuals contribute $6.19 or more that will go towards new signage for the bi-monthly markets, a website that will allow for direct sales through farmers and market pre-orders for pickup, a living wage for the market manager and the creation of a Farmers Assistance Fund to help farmers with unexpected costs.

Donate to the cause at thebullsofdurham.com/campaigns/growing-together-fundraiser and visit the Raleigh Black Farmers Market on Sunday, June 28 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Southeast Raleigh YMCA located at 1436 Rock Quarry Road.
