WEB EXCLUSIVE Hungry Harvest has challenged three local breweries to create a brew utilizing rescued produce from local farms through its Drink Your Produce competition.
We all know the saying “eat your vegetables”—but why not drink them…? Hungry Harvest is challenging three local breweries (Bull City Ciderworks, Durty Bull Brewing and Clouds Brewing) to add produce rescued from local farms into limited-edition brews that will be released Oct. 22.
Here’s a sneak peak of those veggie-forward brews (which we think most definitely can contribute to your daily dose)…. Bull City Ciderworks is launching Yampkin, a cider made with apples—naturally—sweet potatoes, pumpkin, cinnamon, brown sugar and a hint of oak. The cider will be available at all three Bull City locations: Durham, Greensboro and Lexington.

Clouds has brewed up a Sweet Potato Pepper Porter, which adds peppers from Tart Farms in Dunn to the brewery’s annual sweet potato porter to give it just a little kick (available at Clouds’ Raleigh taproom). And last but not least, Durty Bull is bringing the funk with Melonious Funk, a two-year oak-aged sour blended with watermelon and lime, available at Durty Bull’s Durham taproom.
Head out to each of these limited-edition breweries to cast your vote for your fave—the winner will be announced Nov. 8. Hungry Harvest will also be matching a portion of the proceeds generated from the special-brew sales and donating to a local hunger-solving organization. So drink up, friends.
But the fun doesn’t stop there. The brewery with the most social media engagement will receive fresh produce through December. And the person who takes the most creative photo of their brew (using the #drinkyourproduce hashtag and tagging both Hungry Harvest and the brewery) will win a special prize pack! So go on and eat—er, drink—your vegetables!
