If coffee or wine is part of your spiritual practice, consider this your new sanctuary. A deconsecrated Catholic church repurposed by Anna Housman, Oxford’s all-day cafe and restaurant Sanctum has been drawing devotees with great food and bevs ever since its January opening. With vaulted ceilings and original stained glass throughout, the space offers a whimsical setting less than an hour from Raleigh for sipping your morning matcha or evening glass of vino—with a robust all-day menu to keep you satiated. Those mugs? Housman makes them in her Daisy Chain Ceramics studio tucked into the back of the building. Turn to p. 62 for more buzzy detours just beyond the city limits. sanctumcwb.com
