Truck Chasers

Roll out to these delish local food trucks this month.

The Fry Pan
All sizzle and steak, this snack van is frying up all-day breakfast and lunch items with a Latin flare. Spice up your morning with waffles or breakfast tacos/burritos stuffed with eggs, hash browns and your choice of meat. Need an afternoon pick-me-up? Wrap up your day with asada tacos, tacos al pastor, tortas and the like—plus weekly specials. It’s giving fry-day every day (!). @the.frypan

Dampf Good BBQ
There’s no risking it for this brisket—as it’s guaranteed to hit every time. Bringing the heat and the meat, the Texas Monthly-heralded Texas-style craft ’’cue joint posted up at Phillips Farms of Cary serves up all the finger-lickin’-good classics, from brisket and ribs to sandwiches to bangin’ sides like mac & cheese, coleslaw, and elote. And you can bet it’s *dampf* good. Get fired up! @dampfgoodbbq

The Naked Empanada
These tasty pockets of perfection are “so full of flavor, no sauce [is] needed,” so you won’t mind going naked. To wit, owner Roy “Fuzzy” Thombs’ handcrafted morsels feat. locally sourced ingredients are labors of love. For a more savory bite, chow down on The Fuzzy (ground beef), The Triple P (chorizo, pork, ham) or The Shroom, or satisfy your sweet tooth with the Nutella and strawberry-filled op. @nakedempanada

Mike’s Vegan Grill
Powered by plants and fresh flavors, Mike Roach’s veg-forward truck is grilling up vegan comfort food for all—whether you’re vegan or not. With menu items like the Lo Maximo Burger (Hawaiian bun, black beans, onions, bacon bits, jalapenos, mustard, special sauce), Chick’N Loco (basically loaded chicken tenders) and fan-fave Philly cheesesteak, you won’t even miss the meat. Plant power for the win! @mikesvegangrill

Four Raleigh food trucks we can’t get enough of this month

The Golden Empanada

John Cena once famously ate 36 empanadas in a row—and while it may seem like an impossible feat, these deep-fried goodies (filled with the likes of shrimp, cheese, veggies or chicken) make it seem like a walk in the park. Heck, order 37! Round out your golden grub sesh with yellow rice and veggies with pebre (a nonspicy spin on the classic Chilean sauce), and top it off with a mil hojas cake (aka layers of flakey goodness with dulce de leche and cream). You’re guaranteed to be stuffed—in the best way.

Born of a passion for teaching others how to cook Thai food, the authentic catering and cooking class service has expanded its horizons with a food truck, rolling out street-style eats like larb meatballs, shrimp curry, pad thai, Vietnamese spring rolls and khanom moh gang. Prepare to break out of your comfort zone! @eat.thai.raleigh

Raleigh-area food trucks we’re loving right now

Berto’s Chimis

Chimi, chimi, ya! For a bun in a million eating experience, belly up to Berto’s and get lost in saucy authentic Dominican burgers topped with shredded cabbage, tomato and special sauce (you’re gonna want extra)—plus traditional sides like yuca frita, tostones and maduros. After overcoming a slight bump in the road this summer, DR native and Berto’s founder Roberto Diaz is back slinging nostalgic and bold flavors to the people of Raleigh. Lettuce rejoice! bertoschimis.com

Tombachi Restaurants

If you’re ’bout that bachi life, look no further than this Asian food truck serving up “hibachi, but better”—aka everything you love about a hibachi restaurant minus the onion volcanoes and shrimp tossing. Think hefty platters of fried rice feat. chicken, rib-eye steak, shrimp and/or veggies. Pro tip: Get it “Tombachi-style” with an over-easy egg and double sauce. Sounds so rice. tombachirestaurants.com

Las Gringas

Named after a signature Mexican dish comprised of flour tortilla tacos topped with queso oaxaca, carne al pastor, pineapple, and salsa roja or verde, this spec-taco-lar truck serves up authentic Mexican eats like fried shrimp tossed in chipotle ancho sauce, stuffed egg rolls (aka Mexi-rolls), burritos, nachos and tacos, natch. And to boot, Las Gringas is the first food truck in the Triangle to offer trompo al pastor and authentic tepache—and, seriously, it slaps. tacoslasgringas.com

Vegan Ice Cream Man

If you’re looking to satisfy your sweet tooth while still feeling good about what you’re eating, try this plant-based dairy-, egg-, nut- and soy-free (whew!) all-inclusive ice cream truck. Powered by plants and motherly love (the owner says his mother ate ice cream every day while she was pregnant with him), the vegan cream dream offers a variety of fun flavors—from apple pie to thin mint to coffee and doughnuts. How sweet (!). veganicecreamman.com
