Bid your goodbyes to the round Holiday Inn Downtown.

Downtown Raleigh’s iconic round Holiday Inn’s days are numbered. If you’re itching to reminisce and relive the glory of its heyday, the last day to reserve a stay is June 30.

The circa-1969 fixture will be replaced with a swanky Kimpton, part of the IHG Hotels & Resorts’ Luxury & Lifestyle Collection portfolio and owned by Tidal Real Estate Partners, bowing in 2025. But the highly esteemed global boutique hotel brand has a rather big, round hole to fill—literally.

Longtime Raleighites may remember the Holiday Inn as the DTR destination, both for the top-floor lounge/restaurant and its amusement park ride-style parking deck that kept teens entertained any day of the week.

Turning the page on the land’s next story, Kimpton’s fourth NC property and first in Raleigh promises to deliver all the sophistication and luxe design details for which the high-end brand is known.

“We’ve had great success with our Kimptons in North Carolina,” says Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants CEO Mike DeFrino, “and we look forward to offering Raleigh as a new destination in our portfolio. We think our design-led brand and welcoming, innovative restaurants and bars will really resonate with the city’s locals and visitors alike.”

Spanning the first six floors of a 20-story mixed-use building that will also house apartments, the mod hotel will feature 179 guest rooms, ~20 suites, and meeting and event spaces.

And tempting locals for a visit as well will be three restaurant and bar concepts open to the public, including a rooftop bar and lounge.

“Downtown Raleigh has long awaited a luxury hotel experience like Kimpton delivers,” adds Mick Walsdorf, CEO of Tidal Real Estate Partners. “The amenities, restaurants and event spaces will raise the bar for hotel properties in Downtown and establish the Kimpton as a sought-after destination.” Not to mention a primo staycation spot for Raleighites.
