Free parking that actually pays off? Downtown Raleigh Alliance’s weekday free two-hour pilot has boosted accessibility and driven an estimated ~$3.8M million in annual spending across the five participating decks. Launched in November 2024 and extended twice, the program is now greenlit to roll through June 30. “We’re thrilled visitors and businesses will continue to benefit from this pilot program through the holidays and into next year,” says DRA VP of Communications & Community Relations Ileana Rodriguez. I lived in Palm Desert, CA before moving to Raleigh. All parking in the Palm Desert shopping district is free. There are some very high end shops, designer boutiques and restaurants. If you make parking free and easy it does great things for everyone.
