Who doesn’t love free parking? And Raleigh’s parking pilot program—allowing free two-hour parking in select decks—has been met with overwhelming support and positive feedback from residents, visitors and small Downtown businesses alike. Launched in November to encourage more people to frequent DTR, the trial run is set to end in February. “I’ve personally heard from business owners about the positive impact of the program,” says Raleigh City Councilor Jonathan Melton. “It’s my goal for the free two-hour parking in city-owned decks to become a permanent program.” The city is expected to give City Council an update on the pilot’s impact by the end of the month—and then it’s up to Council to decide whether or not to continue it. Better take advantage while you can!
