Get ready to spray-paint the town—literally—with MCK Creative’s Community Mural Workshop.

Ready, aim, spray your paint cans! Raleighites will be able to make their mark around town through a Community Mural Workshop hosted by local artists Wel Sed and Morgan Cook of MCK Creative LLC.

Wel Sed

Cook, a Chapel Hill native who has been working with graffiti art since he was around the age of 14, hopes the workshop serves as a platform for kids (8 years old and up) and adults to express themselves—while contributing to a public art display. “Those are the people that I’m trying to affect and inspire,” he says.

Never held a can of spray paint before? No worries—Cook and Wel Sed will be teaching the design, techniques and creation of large-scale murals using spray paint in small group settings that will also promote community and unity through art. From now until June 14, pop-up spots around town will serve as “places of inspiration and collaboration,” Cook says, as more than 200 participants and volunteers work together over the span of eight weekends to bring the grand project to fruition.

“Art should be accessible to everybody, and it should be valued by everybody,” adds MCK Creative Community Project Director Patricia Oliverio. “Morgan and I work together on what we can do that everyone can enjoy and participate in that doesn’t have a really high price tag.” eventbrite.com
